Budget-friendly typewriter

My mom loves to write a lot and I think I got my interest in writing from her! One of my favorite memories with her include playing with her old typewriter in my attempt to write letters for my grandparents! Okay joining this forum made me a bit more sentimental but what I really wanted to say is that I want to return to letter-writing with the use of a typewriter! I'm not sure it matters if later on I want to use it for a personal project, like a book of poems or short stories. I haven't used one for decades so I'd like to get tips and recommendations where I can find a budget-friendly typewriter! I prefer something light and portable, and hopefully nothing more than $250 if that's possible!

For a light and portable typewriter under $250 check out vintage models like the Smith Corona Corsair or Royal Quiet De Luxe often found on etsy, ebay or local thrift shops. Just make sure it’s been serviced or at least in good working condition. Typewriter forums like this and subreddits are great places for tips too!

Great goal for sure, and definitely doable on a budget!
For a lighter and portable typewriter under $that budget, look for models like the Smith-Corona Skyriter or Olympia SF series theyre my all time recommendations.. Check local thrift stores or Etsy for deals, and try to find one thats been cleaned or serviced if youre new to typewriters. Happy hunnting

Agree with both @Jaded and @MrChow ; personally, I'd focus on finding a Smith-Corona Super/Silent/Sterling. They are in abundance, relatively cheap compared to Olympia (German) or other imported ones, and can be found in plentiful supply in very decent working order at garage sales, eBay, Facebook Marketplace.....
