Remington Portable 1st or 2nd series ?

Good evening to you all, I’ve got a question about a Remington Portable typewriter ; according to its serial number, it seems to have been assembled in September 1926 ; however, mechanically speaking, it looks like one of the earlier models of 1921 ! There’s also a “M” within the serial number, what does it stand for ? Thank you in advance for your replies !

The “M” in the serial number stands for Model M, which Remington used for the Portable line for many years. It’s very common to see a 1926 assembly date with earlier mechanical features because Remington mixed old and new parts during transitions. Your machine is likely a transitional example rather than a misidentified series.
