Hello! I found my dad’s old Olympia typewriter and want to use it for journaling. The carriage doesn’t slide smoothly anymore. Any advice on typewriter cleaning and maintenance for machines like this?
Hey @Vanya, check the rails and carriage for old gunk or dried oil. A careful clean with a soft brush and light machine oil usually gets the carriage sliding smoothly again. Have you tried cleaning the escapement too?
