So I just got this machine and I am trying to replace the ribbon. I searched for some tips on the internet (google, I guess). I thought I would look in the machine and find metal spools but instead there was a set of plastic ones. The left feed side was different with a little lid enclosure thing. It appears to be a Royal brand replacement. I started to take it apart and didn't take pics so I am a little confused now on how to get it back together. I was planning to re-spool it with new ribbon but then it looks very similar to the cheap eBay replacements I got I terms of how the spool engages with the machine. But this I found the the spool mechanism seems to just spin freely and doesn't engage or ratchet? Questions:

1. The spool advance mechanisms should not just spin freely? How do I engage them or is the machine broken?
2. Did this machine come with metal spools originally?
3. Can I use the cheap replacement spools or should I rewind the ribbon on to the plastic spools that came in my machine?

Thanks you in advance.
