Olympia SM8 with script… was this a factory option

My coworker surprised me with a mid‑60s Olympia SM8 she found at an estate sale. I thought it was just another standard portable until I tested it and realized it had script. The thing feels like it was made for writing postcards and party invitations. Does anyone know if Olympia offered script as a factory option or if these were special orders?

Back in the day, you can get Olympias with different typefaces. Script was one of them. If it’s clean and types well then you’ve got a nice one!

I’m planning to give the machine a good cleaning and run a few test pages this week, just to see how steady the imprint remains. Btw do you happen to know if Olympia ever marked their script models differently on the paperwork or case or was it all about the type of slug they installed at the factory?

You could order X typeface (slugs) to come w your new typewriter at some point. Paperwork might not reflect.

Also, Olympia machines rarely have model on them.

Thanks for letting me know the external markings probably won't help. I'll take a closer look at the hardware. While I'm cleaning the machine this week, is there anything on the type slugs that shows if they're original Olympia parts or replacements?
